Cabinets that come from over seas are usually made of plywood. Plywood is not a superior material. They use it because it can withstand traveling on ships and won’t warp nearly as much in wet environments. Locally made cabinets are made with MDF and particle board. These cabinets consist of compressed wood and resin which is more dense than plywood. It provides a smooth finish and is more durable than its plywood counterparts. It is also the most affordable product next to solid wood.
Unregulated Chemicals
Foreign countries also do not have the environmental regulations that we do here in the US. This means that some of the materials and chemicals used to construct your cabinets may also be harmful to your health. In America, we have agencies and companies that regulate what we are and are not allowed to use when constructing goods. Meaning everything in your home can be trusted to have no toxicity.
A Quality Build
One thing you will notice on foreign made cabinets is what holds them together. If your cabinets came from China, they are likely held together with staples instead of pocket screws and glue like American made cabinets are. Also, a lot of the panels will not be cut right, nor line up. Which means they will need modification on the job to make them fit right.
